I was fortunate enough this past fall to be a part of Lia + Alex' wedding. This super cool + gorgeous couple had a wedding that was full of style, elegance and personal details...

Alex proposed on Christmas night after getting my parents’ blessing (what a gentleman!). I can’t say I was terribly surprised considering we absolutely cannot keep secrets from each other and also considering I picked out the antique (1935) post art-deco engagement ring. It was a simple and perfect proposal in my old bedroom at my parents’ farm. He had lit the room with beeswax candles and asked me to be his wife as the rain came softly down on the tin roof above. Too dreamy! We had quite an easy and stress-free planning process for the next 10 months. I did all of the planning with my right-hand woman, my Mom, and it was such an amazing bonding experience for us. Alex and I spent the months leading up to the wedding antiquing, wood-chopping, sanding, painting, chalking, and planning the day of our dreams. I styled the entire wedding with the help of borrowed antiques and linens (not to mention the gorgeous altar frames) from various family friends. I had difficulty putting the “feeling” of the day into words when people asked me what my theme was: I didn’t want the wedding to feel contrived. When it came down to it, I realized it was Woodsy Romantic that I was aiming for and I can happily say that October 16th, 2010 turned out to be just that.
The fall weather was crisp and sparkling with late afternoon sun. Alex and I did a reveal prior to the ceremony as our family pictures took place beforehand and for the both of us, this moment in the courtyard was single-handedly the most magical and amazing moment of our lives. Truly out of the movies and/or every fairytale you’ve ever read! The ceremony itself was also very emotional ? I think we had ? of the room in tears! The reception was filled with so much love and warmth from our families and close friends and we are so happy to have gone with a very intimate setting. We’re not a couple who like to make airs or appearances, or who relish the spotlight and considering this, we felt as though everyone was there for the same reason: to celebrate our love but also to celebrate love and its many wonders in general. The overriding sentiment of the day was TRUE LOVE and both Alex and I are living, breathing examples of this myth come to life.
